Question numbering after you shuffle a test

When you shuffle a test, the numbers printed beside each question are wrong. Exam Blocks cuts a strip off the left edge of each question, where the old number sits, and prints the new number in its place, so every version reads 1, 2, 3 in its own order. Passage lines such as "Questions 7-9 refer to the following" are rewritten too.

A quiz with numbers in the left margin.
  • Your file never leaves your device.
  • Figures, formulas and tables print as you made them.
  • Free for two versions of up to 20 blocks.
Your page, boxed, becomes Version A and Version B Version A Version B Answer map A1 C A2 B A3 DB1 B B2 D B3 C

Worked case: numbers that sit 0.4 inches into the margin

  • Box each question from the left edge of its number. Set "Remove old numbers from the left margin" to 0.40 in: a striped band shows on every box, and that band is what gets cut.
  • Widen it until the band covers the widest number ("12." is wider than "7."), but not the first letter of the question.
  • Make the versions. Your original question 14 might print as 3 on Version A and 11 on Version B, with the new number set where the old one was.
  • If your numbers sit inside the text rather than in a margin, set the slider to off: the new numbers then print beside the old ones.

Questions

Does it renumber the answer key too?

Yes. Each version's key is in its new order, with the original number beside each answer.

What about a passage that names its questions?

Box the passage, tick "Its first line names question numbers", and set how tall that line is. It is replaced with the new range, for example "Questions 2-4 refer to the following."

Can I number from something other than 1?

Not yet: every version starts at 1.

Does each page get a footer?

Yes: "Version A, Page 1 of 3" and so on, so loose pages go back in order.
