Exam Blocks ยท For paper multiple-choice exams
Shuffle a scanned exam into new versions
A scanned exam has no text to edit, and Exam Blocks does not need any. Each question you box is cut out of the scan as a picture and laid onto new pages in a shuffled order, so an old exam you only have on paper can become Version A and Version B with an answer key.
A sample exam, already boxed.
- Your file never leaves your device.
- Figures, formulas and tables print as you made them.
- Free for two versions of up to 20 blocks.
Start with question 1: drag from its top-left corner to below its last choice.
Step by step: a 4-page paper final with 18 questions
- Scan the pages straight, as one PDF. A scan at 300 dots per inch prints as sharp as the original; a crooked or blurry scan prints crooked or blurry.
- Open the PDF here and box each question with a little white space around it. Pick each answer.
- Set "Remove old numbers from the left margin" so the striped band covers the printed numbers, and the new numbers print in their place.
- Make the versions. Handwritten corrections on the scan come along with their question, because each box is cut out whole.
Questions
Can I use a photo from my phone?
Turn it into a PDF first. Most phone scanning apps save straight to PDF.
The scan is a little tilted.
Box each question generously so nothing is clipped. The new versions keep the tilt of each piece.
Does it read the text of the scan?
No. It never needs the text, which is why scans work the same way as typed PDFs.
Is the scan uploaded?
No. It stays in your browser and the versions are saved to your computer.
